Sean Phelan, Ph.D., conducts research focused on the impact of stigma on health and health care. Dr. Phelan studies the effect of health care provider biases and attitudes on the quality and content of clinical care, as well the effect of perceived stigma and discrimination on the health of members of stigmatized and marginalized groups. Dr. Phelan’s current focus is on the effect of weight stigma on treatment of patients who are overweight or obese.
