Summary
Scott Leischow, Ph.D., joined Mayo Clinic in 2012. He previously conducted research at the University of Arizona and served as senior advisor for tobacco policy in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and chief of the Tobacco Control Research Branch at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Leischow completed a doctorate in health education from the University of Maryland, and a postdoctoral fellowship in behavioral pharmacology from Johns Hopkins University. He has received several awards, including the NIH Director’s Award, the NCI Directors Gold Star Award, and the NCI Plain Language Award.
Most of Dr. Leischow’s research and publications focus on pharmacologic and behavioral treatments for tobacco dependence, along with systems and network approaches to public health. In the area of health equity research, Dr. Leischow is the principal investigator on a large U01 grant from NCI to assess the role of Navajo social influences and networks as they pertain to implementation of smoke-free policies. In addition, Dr. Leischow leads the Health Equity Research Initiative at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
