Mayo Clinic Researchers and OHDR Funding Combine to Assess Minority Health

Faith-based public health conferences offer a potential opportunity to improve health literacy and change health behaviors. A recently published study by a team of Mayo Clinic researchers, supported by funding from OHDR and led by Drs. LaPrincess Brewer and Christopher Pullins, examined the self-reported health behaviors and preventive healthcare utilization patterns of 77 participants at a predom-inantly African-American faith-based public health conference, Healthy Churches 2020. The results indicated that the attendees have adequate preventive healthcare utilization, but suboptimal healthy behaviors, indicating a continued need for ongoing health-promotion activities, with an emphasis on diet and physical activity, among the population.
