OHDR—Arizona Invests in Local and Global Outreach, Serving Those Most in Need
Mayo Clinic, through OHDR-Arizona, sponsored the 8th Annual Hope Breakfast for the international development nonprofit Esperança, which serves the poorest in the Phoenix community and abroad. Esperança is a leader in providing health education and resources to Phoenix’s most at-risk and under-served youth and adults. Esperança and Mayo Clinic have a long-standing collaborative partnership: OHDR participated in Esperança’s 2018-2020 Phoenix Program strategic planning for delivering health and disease prevention education to underserved children and their families (Farhia Omar) and provided evaluation/research technical assistance (Dr. Janet Okamoto). Mayo’s Marion Kelly, Community & Business Relations Director, was one of the Hope Breakfast keynote speakers (photo). The 400+ community attendees were inspired to engage in efforts in Phoenix, Arizona, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Uganda, Peru, and Mozambique involving disease prevention, volunteer surgical programs, food security, water, sanitation, and secure housing.
