The Rev. Alton Coles is a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army and has served many roles in the community. Coles was on the Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. (JCCI) management team for a study of the murder rate in Jacksonville and the JCCI Study on Infant Mortality. He served as president of A.M.E. Ministers Alliance and as statistician for the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He has worked with Mayo Clinic on various projects, including multiple myeloma and vitamin D studies. Coles also served as the first chair of the Community Research Advisory Board. He served on the Northeast Florida Healthy Start Board of Directors, and the Northeast Florida KidCare Steering Council. Currently, Coles is pastor of Hurst Chapel A.M.E. Church in St. Augustine, Florida.
