Judith Salmon Kaur, M.D., is medical director for the Native American Programs of the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center: Native C.I.R.C.L.E. provides and develops culturally appropriate cancer education materials for lay persons, allied health staff and clinicians working in Native communities; “Spirit of Eagles" is a national Community Networks Program focused on American Indian and Alaska Natives that develops community-based participatory research studies in Native populations, provides scholarship support for students in medicine or biological sciences training, and advocates for improved cancer prevention and control in American Indian and Alaska Native Populations (NCI-fundedU54).
Dr. Kaur's research includes a special interest in women's cancers, particularly breast and cervical cancer. Dr. Kaur is a professor of oncology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and medical director of the Mayo Clinic Hospice Program. She is director of research for the Mayo Clinic Palliative Care Program and has directed a course called “Intensive Case-based Palliative Care” for providers in the Indian Health System since 2010. Dr. Kaur is Choctaw/Cherokee and one of only two American Indian medical oncologists in the U.S.
